STEM课程是科学(science)、技术(technology)、工程(engineering)和数学(mathmatics)四门学科英文首字母的缩写,集合四门学科为一体,致力于跨学科、应用型的科学教育。

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

STEM课程是科学(science)、技术(technology)、工程(engineering)和数学(mathmatics)四门学科英文首字母的缩写,集合四门学科为一体,致力于跨学科、应用型的科学教育。比起将四门学科单独教授的传统方式,STEM课程着重培养学生的综合学习能力,并在实际生活场景中提高学生的综合科学技术素养。

Harrow Beijing Lower School has been hosting its annual STEM challenge since 2017. From 12th Feb to 13th Feb, 2018, the students from Reception to Year 5 took part in STEM challenges from 12th Feb to 13th Feb as part of the Pre-prep Academic Cup. STEM seeks to build students' scientific, technical and engineering skills through collaborative enquiry learning. In a STEM environment, students need to think creatively in solving problems that imitate real-life situations. These solutions are reached through planning and construction, usually in small groups.

自2017年起,哈罗北京小学部每年举办STEM挑战系列活动。2018年2月12日至13日,学前班到五年级学生参加了第二届STEM系列挑战。作为小学部院舍杯的一部分,哈罗北京的STEM活动旨在通过合作性的探究式学习,培养学生的科学、技术、工程技能。在STEM理念下的学习环境中,学生们需要发挥创意,思考实际生活中的问题的解决方法,并通过小组合作、计划和建造来动手解决问题。

This year, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in creating paper chains as their first challenge, with Houses seeking to make theirs the longest. For the second challenge these children turned their attention to building towers out of plastic straws, with the aim of creating the highest tower possible. Students in Years 3, 4 and 5 embarked upon a two-day challenge to design and build floating houses that would survive a flood.

在今年的活动中,学前班、一年级和二年级学生首先参与了制造纸链的活动,并以院舍为单位,进行纸链长度比赛。然后又着眼于用塑料吸管搭建高塔,并尽量达到最大高度。与此同时,三、四、五年级学生则花了两个下午的时间来设计并建造可在洪水中漂浮并幸存的房屋。

The variety of designs and the level of technical skill displayed by Harrow Beijing students was evident throughout both competitions. At Harrow Beijing, such a enquiry learning process happens every now and then, in every classroom. 在为期两天的STEM挑战中,小学部的学生们通过思考、合作和动手,展现了各种奇思妙想的设计和不同层次的技术能力。在哈罗北京,这样的探究性学习过程每天都在各个年级进行着。我们将持续提供高质量的教育来履行学校的承诺:为未来世界培养具有领导力的人才。
